Playground Celebrating the Life of Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung
The Dawn Hochsprung playground was built in honor of Sandy Hook Elementary School’s Principal. This playground was opened on October 5th, 2014 in Watertown, Connecticut where her four grandchildren live. The playground incorporated all things Dawn, including her love for sailing, poodles and playing pirates with her grandchildren. This playground also features 20 swings, and 6 riding toys, representing the students and teachers who were tragically lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
In a project that took a year and a half to complete, 26 playgrounds now stand in tribute to the lives lost in Sandy Hook two years ago this December. Principal Dawn Hochsprung’s playground was the last to be built, but just as emotional as the first. It was filled with the names of the six teachers and administrators that were lost, and designed to represent Hochsprung's personality. The family hopes the playground will be a place of laughter and joy for children for years to come.
