Playground Celebrating the Life of Anne Marie Murphy
The Anne Marie Murphy playground, built in Sea Bright, New Jersey, opened on April 6th, 2013. The Sea Bright playground was the first of many built to honor the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting and was dedicated to Anne Marie Murphy, a Sandy Hook special-education teacher. It's all part of the Sandy Ground Project, which is building 26 playgrounds for each of the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting.
At the time, Sea Bright, New Jersey was one of the worst affected areas during hurricane Sandy in 2012. Currently the playground rests along the coast right off of the boardwalk. In the sand at the foot of the sign are three shells with special messages for Murphy from her family. The playground adorned with black and white memorial ribbons, and its new signs, mark rebirth in more ways than one.
